Hear from staff who started their career as apprentices working for Hackney Homes

Danny, Electrician

Danny completed his Electrical Apprenticeship in the shortest time ever at Hackney Homes, and now works as a permanent employee.
"To earn and learn is the best way to do it especially if you get a job at the end of it. Doing it quickest was a highlight, but as long as I did it, it didn't really matter how long it took. I enjoy fault-finding the most and I get a good feeling when I finish an installation, and it works! The experience is challenging, thought-provoking and sometimes exhausting, but in a good way."

Kofi, Multi-skilled tradesman

Kofi is currently a permant member of staff and is a qualified operative.

"I am very glad I did it and would recommend it to others. I wanted a positive career and I always wanted to do this. Some of the highlights are working with professionals and every day is different with different obstacles to climb. The scheme gives you a positive outlook on your future."

Daisy, Plumber and Derrie, Carpenter

Daisy is now a qualified plumber working for Hackney Homes.
"I'm definitely glad I did it - it's something different for a woman to do and it's good to prove that we can do it. I love the hands-on work. Every day is different and no two jobs are the same. It's not boring and we always have help when we need it."

Derrie, Carpenter

Derrie is in a second year of her carpentry apprenticeship.
"It has given me an opportunity to learn a new trade and use my skills. I am gaining confidence by being able to do tasks myself once I have been taught how to do it. It is interesting and challenging and a great learning experience. I would definitely recommend it."

Antonn, Electrician

Antonn, is in his second year as an electrical apprentice.
"I wanted to better myself and work with Hackney Homes to make a difference to Hackney. I've lived in the borough all my life and I wanted to make it better. I would definitely recommend it - a chance to work, learn a trade and find out how working life is."

Application deadline for the Hackney Homes 2011 apprenticeship has now closed.
