What is Garden Swap?

The idea behind Garden Swap is to join people up to help each other to look after and spruce up their gardens.If you have a garden and are unable to look after it due to health or other reasons, you can sign up to Garden Swap and we will match you up with someone who is green fingered and wants to help others.

If you don't have a garden, you can donate your time to someone else and help to create a beautiful garden in Hackney. You can grow food and vegetables or just flowers to make the space an inviting and welcoming area to be enjoyed.

What do I get in return?

You get the opportunity to beautify a garden and help out a neighbour. You may even be able to take home some of the fruits and vegetables that you have helped to plant in the garden and enjoy these in your home. Hackney Homes will also offer you free gardening related training courses as well as exciting trips and days out.

For example, you may spend time with the Hackney Homes gardeners or be part of a team that shows others how to grow food on their estate. In addition, once you have completed over 100 hours of volunteering and if you are hoping to get potential employment, Hackney Homes will provide you with training and references to help you get back into work. It is really as simple as that - there is no catch and no cost involved!
