Decent Homes works start
Hackney received a much smaller amount of money from the Government this year to carry our decent homes works.
Since 2006 Hackney Council has invested £184 million in Decent Homes improvements resulting in new windows, kitchens, bathrooms in thousands of homes. We're pleased that Hackney's bid resulted in the second highest funding allocation in London.
Councillor Philip Glanville Cabinet member for Housing says:
"Hackney Council is committed to improving the lives of residents in the borough and since 2006 has invested £184 million in Decent Homes improvements resulting in new windows, kitchens, bathrooms in thousands of homes. However, the Government has reduced the funding for Decent Homes nationally and all local authorities have had to bid for money for decent homes works."
He adds: "We're delighted that Hackney's bid resulted in the second highest funding allocation in London with £33 million guaranteed for 2011/12. We will also use the match funding we have received from Government to maximise the Community Energy Savings Programme (CESP) and invest an additional £4m for Decent Homes work this year."
Programme of Decent Homes works (April 2011 - March 2012)
Work will be carried out this year on estates and blocks where a detailed survey has been carried out previously and residents have agreed the design with the contractor. In addition, works will also be carried out to the external structure of blocks across Hackney. All residents who will receive works will be contacted by the Resident Liaison Officer.
