Housing Deeds
What happens to the deed if I purchase my house?
When you have purchased your property under the Right to Buy, the Council will not retain the title deeds. If you have bought your property with a mortgage or loan, the deeds will be held by your Lender.
How does this process occur?
Our Legal Services Department and our external Legal Providers give internal support to the Housing Department for the sale of council houses and the handling of deeds. We do not offer advice for the benefit of individuals.
Any queries concerning the conveyancing process of your Right to Buy application should be made through your own solicitors. You can consult the Right to Buy Handbook, which is sent to you when applying for the Right to Buy, for more information.
