    Improving your estate campaign

    Improving Your Estate

You will have seen posters on your estate notice boards, on banners on Hackney streets and on the backs of buses going through Hackney. You will also read more about this in Hackney Homes News June issue. What is this all about? read on

    What is the campaign about?

Hackney Homes’ ‘Improving Your Estate Campaign’ is aimed at informing you, our residents about the significant improvements that have been made to homes, communal areas and estates right across the borough.
The campaign highlights the improvements that have been carried out by Hackney Homes, many of which have been as a result of involvement and suggestions from residents.

What are the key improvements highlighted?

The key improvements highlighted in this campaign are:
    • 10,400 new windows
    • 250 safer, more secure communal doors
    • 100 play areas refurbished
    • 14,000 energy saving light bulbs
    • Additional repairs carried out in your home

What is the background to this?

Hackney Homes carries out a regular residents survey to measure satisfaction amongst tenants and leaseholders for the services they receive.
The results of the 2006/07 survey showed that satisfaction with Hackney Homes was increasing. Residents also indicated their top priorities as being:
    • safety on estates
    • better play areas for younger children
    • graffiti and vandalism on estates
    • repairs carried out within the home
Hackney Homes has undertaken significant work over the past two years to improve safety and the environment on estates throughout the borough. Some examples include:
    • installing more communal doors which restrict access to residents only
    • installing stronger, double glazed windows providing better insulation and better security
    • replacing old doors with stronger police approved GERDA doors which are contributing to the fall in burglary rates across the borough
    • revamping the play areas on estates so that they have multi use (i.e. football, basketball and netball) and can cater for children of all ages
    • vastly increased  the number and types of repairs that are carried out in tenants homes
This campaign aims to provide you with information about improvements on your estate and to highlight how your involvement can and does make a difference.
