    Estate Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance

    Grounds maintenance

    What does estate cleaning involve?

The Estate Cleaning section is organized into area teams. Each team is responsible for keeping a number of estates up to a high standard of cleanliness.
In the morning they sweep, mop and litter pick all communal entrances and lifts and spot mop stairs where necessary. They also litter pick lawn areas and footpaths and roadways.
In the afternoons they work in teams for the internal cleaning of individual blocks. This is done to a published programme in order that our customers can know when to expect the team.
You can search the afternoon estate cleaning schedule to see when the cleaning team will be visiting your estate.
The Estate Cleaning section also operates a weekend service, visiting recognised hot spots and responding to emergencies when required on Saturdays and Sundays. If you need to report a problem on your estate to the weekend cleaning team, please call 020 8986 4707.

What can I do if there is a problem with graffiti?

If you see anyone deliberately causing damage or graffiti, please report them to us. We welcome any information that could lead to those people being charged with the costs rather than the costs falling to the tenants and residents.
Offensive and hate crime graffiti is removed within 3 hours of reporting. All other grafiiti is expected to be removed within four working days.
You can report graffiti to the Housing Contact Centre on 020 8356 3691.

    What does Grounds Maintenance involve?

Grounds maintenance is provided by teams of staff who have responsibility for the provision of:
    • grass cutting
    • shrub pruning
    • planting of flower and shrub beds
    • general maintenance of gardens in communal areas

Who will check that these works are being done?

Estate Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance supervisors are on estates every week monitoring the standards of cleanliness and the work being carried out by operatives.
Every quarter, Hackney Homes will carry out walkabouts on estates to inspect the cleaning, grounds maintenance and anything else that impacts on the estate environment.
These are carried out by the Estate Manager, TRA reps, wardens (where applicable), Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance supervisors / managers, repairs section, Councillors and senior link officer.
All residents are welcome to join the walkabout. Simply come to the meeting point on the day of the walkabout and information will be provided to you.
