What does Estate Cleaning Involve?

The Estate Cleaning section is organised into area teams. Each team is responsible for cleaning a number of estates and maintaining them to a high standard of cleanliness.
On a daily basis estate cleaners will carry out the following duties:
- Spot mop communal areas as required
- Litter pick all communal areas
- Sweep and spot mop lifts
- Spot mop stairs where necessary
- Litter pick lawn areas, footpaths and roadways within the estate
 
The Estate Cleaning department operates a weekend cleaning service. The weekend service visits recognised hot spots and responds to emergencies when required on Saturdays and Sundays. If you need to report a problem on your estate to the weekend cleaning team, please call 020 8986 7738.

What can I do if there is a problem with graffiti?

If you see anyone deliberately causing damage or graffiti, please report them to us. We welcome any information that could lead to those people being charged with the costs rather than the costs falling to the tenants and residents.
Offensive and hate crime graffiti is removed within 3 hours of reporting. All other grafiiti is expected to be removed within four working days.

What does Grounds Maintenance involve?

Grounds maintenance is provided by teams of staff who have responsibility for the provision of:
  • grass cutting
  • shrub pruning
  • planting of flower and shrub beds
  • general maintenance of gardens in communal areas

Who will check that these works are being done?

Estate Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance supervisors are on estates every week monitoring the standards of cleanliness and the work being carried out by operatives.
Every quarter, Hackney Homes will carry out walkabouts on estates to inspect the cleaning, grounds maintenance and anything else that impacts on the estate environment.
These are carried out by the Estate Manager, TRA reps, wardens (where applicable), Cleaning and Grounds Maintenance supervisors / managers, repairs section, Councillors and senior link officer.
All residents are welcome to join the walkabout. Simply come to the meeting point on the day of the walkabout and information will be provided to you.

What you can expect

Estate environment services
We aim to provide a high quality and responsive estate cleaning and grounds maintenance services.
Our approach is to.
  • Publish our cleaning standards and grounds maintenance schedules in a visible location on estates and on our website www.hackneyhomes.org.uk  
  • Provide an emergency service at weekends. Access this service on Tel: 020 8986 4707
  • Provide examples of our required cleaning standards on request, including photographic examples of the standard
  • Clean areas identified as 'hotspots' (such as close to shopping centres, clubs, public houses, transport links or areas identified with ASB issues), either on Saturday or Sunday, or on both days, depending on need
  • Carry out bulk refuse collections weekly, in line with published schedules
Our service standards.
  • We will hold programmed quarterly estate walkabouts with tenants
  • We will raise orders on the same day for any work that is required
  • We will undertake cleaning on estates every day. This includes: cleaning communal entrances; sweeping courtyards, paths and roads; keeping lawns and flowerbeds clear and safe by removing litter and dangerous waste; keeping the bins and bin areas clean and clear; and replacing broken bulbs
  • Estate cleaners will clean the inside of windows in communal areas, in line with our published window cleaning schedules
  • We will remove offensive graffiti within 3 hours of being reported. Other graffiti will be removed within 4 working days of being reported
  • We will ensure the grounds of estates are well maintained by keeping plants in good health; pruning shrubs; and preventing the build up of leaves in Autumn
