Message to residents from Councillor Alan Laing and Hackney Homes Chair David Curley
You may be aware that Hackney Homes has recently been inspected by the Audit Commission to see if the services provided to you meet a high standard. The result of that inspection is that Hackney Homes has been rated as being a fair ‘one star’ service, with ‘promising prospects for improvement’.
The Audit Commission’s report recognises many of the improvements that have been made over the last year including effectively tackling anti-social behaviour, improvements to estate maintenance, fast re-letting of empty properties and increasing numbers of homes being made decent. This is good news. But Hackney Homes did not achieve the two star grade it needed to access Government funding for the remainder of the Decent Homes programme.
Hackney Council is committed to finding the resources to ensure that our Decent Homes programme continues. There may be some adjustments to the programme next year, but rest assured works will continue.
We will be writing personally to you in the next couple of weeks regarding Decent Homes work to your estate or property. The Decent Homes section of this website will also be updated and we’ll provide further updates in Hackney Homes News.
We are confident that Hackney Homes will continue to improve services for residents and achieve a two star status rating by the Audit Commission. Our commitment is to continue to deliver Decent Homes across all our estates.
