    Getting by with a little help from my friends…
    A group of residents from Millfields Estate have embarked on a peer mentoring programme coordinated by the Tenants’ and Residents’ Association (TRA) on the estate.

    Hackney Homes tenant wins a month rent free
    A whole month’s rent for free. Just for paying by direct debit? That was the prize on offer for all tenants who were either paying their rent by direct debit or had signed up over the past year. The summer rent campaign saw nearly 200 tenants sign up bringing the total number of tenants paying by direct debit up to nearly three thousand.

    Outreach surgeries… making reporting a repair easier
    Hackney Homes currently runs 27 repairs surgeries on estates, providing residents with the opportunity to discuss a fault with repairs staff face-to-face. The surgeries take place in venues that are accessible to most residents including community halls, neighbourhood centres and senior citizens clubs.

    MORI results reveal 9% increase in tenant satisfaction
    Hackney Homes is making great strides towards improving services for tenants with a recent MORI survey showing an increase of 9 percentage points in overall satisfaction with services provided since 2006.

    Hackney Homes gas safety team avert ‘time-bomb’
    Hackney Homes' gas and estate safety teams and police officers averted a ‘time-bomb’ at a property in Clapton – after discovering that a Hackney Homes tenant had fixed a large propane gas cylinder to a gas cooker.

    The sun is out and school is finished for the summer. Time to kick off Hackney Homes community fun days on estates in the borough. Taking place between July and September, Hackney Homes are encouraging all residents to come out and enjoy the fun days and also sign up to get involved and have a say about decisions that affect their homes and environment.

    Lugging bikes up the stairs is history on a Hackney Homes estate
    WIth a large number of cyclists living in the borough, Hackney Homes’ estates are being geared up to accommodate their needs. Frampton Park Estate in Homerton recently had bike lockers installed right across the estate to offer safe and convenient storage facilities for cyclists to store their bikes and related equipment.

    Following a successful application by Hackney Homes for the London Development Agency’s REAP (Recreation and Environmental Action Programme) project, Gascoyne Estate has been transformed.

    Hackney Homes unearths cannabis factory
    A tenant who turned his two bedroom flat into a cannabis factory on the Wrens Park Estate has been rumbled following a joint operation by Hackney Homes, Springfield Safer Neighbourhood Team and the Metropolitan Police and EDF energy.
    The raid took place in the early hours of Tuesday 10th June and the tenant was discovered in the property along with hundreds of cannabis plants and the paraphernalia to support continuous production of plants in all of the rooms.

    A poster campaign that spells out the improvements we have made to homes, communal areas and estates is launched this week. Called ‘Improving Your Estate’ it highlights the work that has been undertaken as a result of involvement and suggestions from residents.

    Hackney Homes celebrates good neighbours day
    Hackney Homes is marking European Good Neighbours Day on 27 May with two events, one at Woodberry Down the other at Nightingale Estate.
    European Good Neighbours’ Day is annual fixture in the calendar and is held in in more than 28 countries. Neighbours’ Day aims to bring communities together by encouraging people to talk to their neighbours and get to know each other.

    Following a year of hard work, learning and mentoring, fourteen trainees from the Woodberry Works construction centre will graduate on 21st May with an industry recognised qualification and vital working experience.

    Greedy fraudsters uncovered by Hackney Homes
    Two fraudsters, who abused their Council tenancies while also owning homes in other boroughs, have been exposed following investigation by Hackney Homes’ estate safety team.

    Hackney Homes tenant praises anti-social behaviour project for ‘turning her life around’
    Deborah from Stamford Hill has lived in Hackney for over seven years and had received complaints about nuisance and anti-social behaviour taking place in her home. She was at risk of losing her home and did not know who or where to turn to.
    At the launch event of Hackney Family Intensive Support Project (FISP), a joint Hackney Homes and children’s charity, NCH project, Deborah told guests from government and local organisations about how the project has worked with her family to support them to make changes to their life.
