Hackney Homes challenges young residents to take on 2012 sports
Hackney Homes is working with the Council's 2012 Team to inspire our young residents to have a go at Olympic and Paralympic sports. Throughout the summer, coaches will be on estates in Hackney teaching young people everything from javelin to handball and football.

Fashion show fever as Irish Traveller Girls strut their stuff
The colourful and extravagant culture of the Hackney Traveller community descended on Mare Street last week at the 'Irish Girls' Fashion Show. Around fifteen young Traveller girls all from Hackney strutted down the makeshift catwalk in Hackney Library in outfits donned in sequins, glitter and fluorescent fabric.

Hackney Homes residents celebrate good neighbours
Local residents on Landfield Estate in Hackney came out in the sunshine last week to celebrate having good neighbours as part of European Neighbours' Day. The event is an annual fixture in the calendar and is held in more than 28 countries. It aims to bring communities together by encouraging people to talk to their neighbours and get to know each other.

In 2009 over 107,000 dogs were picked up as strays by local authorities in the UK and only 42% of these dogs were successfully reunited with their owners. That's why Hackney Homes, in conjunction with the UK's largest dog welfare charity Dogs Trust, are offering all tenants and leaseholders the opportunity to get a microchip for their dog for permanent identification for free*.

Brand new bike storage facilities installed on nine estates in Hackney
84 individual bike lockers recently installed on estates in Hackney have revolutionised the way residents store their bikes. Previously residents would have to take their bikes indoors but since the introduction of the bike lockers, they can keep their bikes safe and secure on the estate and access the lockers as and when they wish.

Hackney Homes staff donate £2,400 to local cycling club
Hackney Homes staff and partners have donated £2,400 to help young people on estates improve their cycling skills. The money was raised by eleven staff members who cycled over 200 miles from Grenoble to Nice in France - all with the aim of inspiring young people.

A Hackney address was raided this week by Hackney Homes and the police following reports from local residents that suspicious activities were taking place. Three people were arrested and police recovered drugs and other criminal paraphernalia.
