Hackney Homes has embarked on the biggest renewal project in its history. The Decent Homes Programme will improve thousands of homes by 2012.
What is the Decent Homes Standard?
In simple terms The Decent Homes standard means homes must be wind and watertight with reasonably modern kitchens and bathrooms. This means replacing the following items if they are in both poor condition and more than 30 years old:
    • roofs
    • windows & Doors
    • brickwork
    • wiring
    • kitchens
    • bathrooms
When will the work take place?
Decent Homes works are currently taking place right across the borough and residents are already seeing the benefits.
The order in which blocks of flats or individual properties will receive Decent Homes improvement work was determined by the use of a stock condition survey and detailed consultation with resident representatives at Neighbourhood Investment Boards.
