What happens if I owe money at the end of my lease?
If there are arrears at the end of your tenancy, Hackney Homes will continue to pursue them.
Even if you are a former tenant, it is important that you contact our former tenant accounts team to discuss these issues, so that a mutually convenient solution can be negotiated.
If clearing the debt in a single payment is not possible, it may be possible to agree to repay by instalments.
If it is not possible to agree and implement a solution, we will take further action and ask a court to get an ‘order for payment’. This is an expensive option, as court costs will be added to the amount you already owe.
