    Hackney Homes works in partnership with Hackney Council to help and support our residents who have a disability or are finding it difficult to access or move around their home. One of the ways we aim to do this is through the Equipment and Adaptations Service where, if applicable, you may be provided with equipment to assist with day to day activities or an adaptation to your home.
    If you are a Hackney Homes tenant and you are disabled or have a long term illness which causes you to have difficulties with day to day activities, help is available.
    • We can advise on suitable equipment for you or adaptations to your home.
    • We may be able to supply equipment on loan; for example, a raised toilet seat or bathing equipment.
    • We can provide minor adaptations to your home, like grab rails and additional stair rails.
    • If major adaptations are needed, such as a lift or a ramp for wheelchair access, we can assist with these.
    We want to help you to live independently in your present home. However, if you would be better off moving to different accommodation, we will discuss all the options with you.

    Our standards...

    Hackney Homes works in partnership with Hackney Council to help and support residents who are disabled to live as independently as possible.
    • We will complete 100% of all assessments within 28 days of you contacting us
    • We will deliver equipment and straightforward minor adaptations to your home within 7 days from the time the order is placed
    • We aim to complete more major adaptations to your home within 30 weeks from the time you ask us for an assessment
    Everyone's needs are different so we will work with you to tailor our services to meet your individual needs.

    Who to contact?

    All requests for equipment or adaptations must start with an assessment of needs by the London Borough of Hackney, Community Services Directorate for Adult Services and Children’s Integrated Occupational Therapy (OT) Service.
