    Property demolition - Tenants responsibilities

What are my responsibilities in the case of a demolition?

If you are involved in a demolition, there are a number of things you will have to do:
    • Remove your furniture
Hackney Homes will book the contractor to carry out the removal of your furniture and belongings. It is up to you to carry out the removal. You must also make sure you get a receipt so that Hackney Homes can reimburse you.
    • Disconnect your phone
It is your responsibility to contact your telephone provider and advise them of your new address. Hackney Homes will reimburse you if there is a charge made by the provider to reconnect services to the new address. It is also your responsibility to provide us with a copy of the bill and of the ‘Breakdown of Charges’ page that accompanies the bill, as well as a copy of your telephone bill from your previous address.
    • Disconnect your cooker, washing machine and dishwasher
Hackney Homes will pay reasonable costs for the disconnection and reconnection of your cooker, washing machine and dishwasher. You must keep valid receipts for reimbursement.
    • Redirect your mail
Hackney Homes will pay for redirection of your mail for three months. You must keep a receipt for reimbursement and you must arrange the redirection at your local Post Office.
    • Disconnect your satellite dish
Hackney Homes will pay reasonable cost for the disconnection and reconnection of your satellite dish if you can produce a valid receipt. Please note, this reimbursement will only be paid if you received written consent from Hackney Homes (or the Hackney Council) for the installation of the dish.
    • Disconnect your cable TV
Hackney Homes will pay for the disconnection and reconnection of cable television on production of the bill from the cable television company. It is your responsibility to provide us with the bill.
If you have any queries you can contact your Neighbourhood Housing Office.
