Hackney Homes offers an apprenticeship scheme that allows the borough’s young people to play a part in building Hackney’s future.
We offer modern apprenticeships in a number of trades including Painting & Decorating; Electrical; Plumbing; Multi-Skilling and Carpentry.
The multi-skilling apprenticeships cover basic traning in a range of skills such as carpentry, tiling, plastering, painting, plumbing and lead to an NVQ qualification.
The apprenticeship scheme is aimed at young people between the ages of sixteen and nineteen years, and is designed to provide young people with the opportunity to learn a craft or trade within the repairs and maintenance industry.
The training offered is of a high quality and provides scheme members with real work experience, along with a recognised qualification, on completion of training.
Apprentices need to have a good standard of literacy and numeracy for all trades. However, for electrical and plumbing, apprentices need to have achieved Grade C or above in both Maths and English GCSE.
Hackney Homes is a multi-site organisation with work centres all over the breadth of Hackney.
Trainees are required to work at a number of these centres to provide a wide range of experiences.
What level of National Vocational Qualification or City & Guilds qualification do apprentices achieve?
Apprentices who complete the course successfully achieve a minimum of Level 2.
Three to four years.
All apprentices are appointed a Training Officer, and it is their role to ensure that apprentices are working in a safe environment and that they receive effective work experience. There is also additional support to ensure that apprentices are making good progress with their competency units and meeting their targets.
Aprentices are given the following training in addition to their craft/trade qualification:
- Induction
- Health & Safety
- Manual Handling
- Customer Care
- Equality and Diversity
No. All course fees and examination registration are paid by Hackney Homes.
This is dependant on the trade, and on the age of the apprentice.
Hackney Homes can’t guarantee to offer you permanent jobs to all apprentices. However, our track record is such that a large number of trainees, who have successfully completed their training and gained the relevant qualification, have ultimately become operatives within the organisation and have contributed to the delivery of quality standards to the tenants of Hackney.
Applications for the 2008 scheme are closed. Applications for the 2009 scheme will be available from this site in April/May 2009.
