Community Events

We hold a number of annual events for local residents, as a way of both communicating with them about current plans and to gather feedback. We have not yet confirmed event dates for 2010; please look in the monthly newsletter for updates or check this page again soon.

Community Feast - 2 December 2009

The Robin Redmond Resource Centre (RRRC) hosted the second Community Feast organised by the Woodberry Down Regeneration Team. More than 250 residents living in and around Woodberry Down came along to enjoy the festivities. Residents and stakeholders were invited to the event to celebrate the achievements at Woodberry Down over the past year.
The Community Feast provided an informal, relaxed space for the Woodberry Down Regeneration Team (WDRT) and agencies working in the area to talk to residents and encourage them to share their opinions and concerns about the regeneration scheme.
The theme for the event was ‘Winter Wonderland’, and to take advantage of the backdrop that was designed for last year's feast, decorations were added to the main hall within the RRRC, enhancing the look and feel of a rural café. Two large-scale graffiti areas were incorporated into the design to enable residents to leave feedback about the event and plans for the area.

Woodberry Down Fun Day - 11 July 2009

More than 400 local people came along to the 5th Annual Woodberry Down Fun Day to find out about healthy living and how to become more involved with their community.
Residents met with members of the regeneration team to get an update on the progress of the scheme, to find out what activities are happening in the area and how to get involved. They also spoke with members of the Genesis Housing Group team about their plans and projects.
Activities for the whole family included dance performances, messy arts and recycling activities along with relaxing massages and a fun and friendly children's entertainer called Mojo. There was also a football tournament and the Ginga do Quilombo Capoeira duo who gave an fantastic Capoeira (Brazilian Martial Art) demonstration.

Men's Event - 23 June 2009

The Woodberry Down Regeneration Team hosted their first ever Men’s Event on Tuesday 23 June at the RRRC. More than 70 men turned out in the sunshine to enjoy the Caribbean BBQ and Turkish food in the company of friends and neighbours
The men, aged from 16 to 80, were treated to massages from the Healing Tent  along with the Giant Scalextrics and Table Football.
Mr Sadafal, our local Road Crossing Patrol Officer, said; “I really enjoyed getting together with the local community and would love to know when the next event is”.
The theme for the event was ‘Access to Services’ to highlight National Men’s Health Week. Services that supported the day included Homerton and Hackney PCT, who provided health checks and advice, Hackney Homes Repairs, Hackney Community College, The Learning Trust, Genesis ‘Ways into Work”, Well London and Groundwork.
