Young People
Woodberry Down Youth Provision
Ensuring that there is healthy youth provision and activities for young people in our area of operation has been identified as a key priority for MHDT. Over the next 2 years MHDT has a target of engaging a minimum of 400 young people with 162 of these gaining accreditation.
'Stand Up' - Positive Activities for Young People
The MHDT has been successful in winning a £100,000 contract from Team Hackney, Positive Activities for Young People (PAYP). Leading a consortium bid from the North East Youth Providers Network, MHDT now manages the youth work provision on the Woodberry Down Estate, this has included successful contracts with Parkside, Elevate and London Wildlife Trust.
The Trust also chairs and organises the North East Hackney Youth Providers Network meetings. The network meets every other month and allows both the statutory and voluntary sector to co-ordinate their work with young people. Around 20 organisations attend the forum. If you would like to find out more details about our work with youth groups or join the forum please contact us.
Employment and Training
Woodberrry Works was officially launched in December 2007, the training scheme provides local people in the Woodberry Down and Stamford Hill areas with training courses to provide the skills needed to take advantage of employment opportunities, originally stemming from the Woodberry Down Regeneration project and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Woodberry Works aims to develop a range of training and employability initiatives targeting Woodberry Down and wider Hackney residents, especially those under represented in particular sectors of employment. Previous trainees have worked towards a City and Guilds Level 1, a CSCS Card enabling them to work on a constructions site, Health and Safety training, DIY Women’s taster days, and most recently a Business Administration NVQ level 2. The courses also provide trainees with vital work experience opportunities with leading companies within the field of construction and community organisations.
Throughout 2009, Woodberry Works has seen over 100 people and young people pass courses and gain accreditation on courses either funded or organised through the Trust/Woodberry Works.
Woodberry Works is facilitated by the Manor House Development Trust, and its manager is Caroline Tomiczek. If you are interested and would like more information please email Caroline at

Health and Well-Being
Well London
MHDT has teamed up with Well London in an exciting, 5 year project that will work with local people to transform their health with a wide variety of different projects and initiatives. Well London is a regional portfolio with projects in 20 of the 33 London boroughs.
These 20 communities are all in Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs), small geographical areas covering around 1500 to 2000 people, and in Hackney the focus is on the Woodberry Down Estate.
The Well London programme will invest in local community-led projects:
- Promoting mental health and well-being
- Improving healthy eating choices
- Promoting access to open spaces and increasing physical activity
MHDT is responsible for managing the Hackney Borough Co-ordinator role on behalf of Well London, as well as developing and managing the volunteer Well London Delivery Team. MHDT will post publicity for events and reports as and when they are available. You can keep up to date with all Well London projects and activities by downloading our monthly newsletter.
Over the past year a number of projects have taken place around Woodberry Down Estate including: ‘Cook and Eat’ course at the RRRC and more recently the ‘Healthy Spaces grow bag’ scheme. Seventeen residents have undergone training to become Woodberry Down Health Champions, they will now work to signpost and encourage members of the community on upcoming free Well London events and projects in the area.
