What happens if I don't pay my garage fees?
If you are renting a garage and fail to make your payments, we will take action to ensure that you can repay the arrears and continue making full payments. When arrears amount to two weeks rent we will contact you to seek full payment.
If you are renting a garage from us and you are having difficulties making your payments, you should contact your neighbourhood housing office as soon as possible.
Can I lose my garage?
Your garage can be repossessed by Hackney Homes. If arrears reach four weeks rent, we will serve a Notice to Quit. This is a formal notice that Hackney Homes will take possession of the garage (and change the locks) after seven days.
Unlike repossessions of houses and flats, Hackney Homes does not need to apply to a court for a possession order, because the garage is not anyone’s home.
