Evictions for late payment

Can I be evicted for late payment of my rent?

We will take legal action against you if you do not pay us the rent you owe us, do not keep to any agreement you have made with us about repayment, or breach another requirement of your tenancy.

We will send a written warning to you and any joint tenant. You should contact us immediately. The sooner you do this the less likely it is that we will take you to court.

If you make no attempt to clear or reduce your arrears, we will go to court and you will have to:

  • pay the court costs if the court believes you to be in the wrong
  • pay Hackney Homes what you owe
You may also be made to leave your home and be considered intentionally homeless. You will also be unable to rent a parking space or garage from us and will not be considered for a transfer to another home.
If you are having problems paying your rent, contact your local Neighbourhood Housing Office.
