New start at local offices for Hackney Homes residents
April 2011 brings a new start at all eight neighbourhood offices in Hackney. From the 1st of the month, they will all be managed directly by Hackney Homes. This decision was made by Hackney Council Cabinet following a consultation exercise where majority of residents chose to change the way in which the offices were managed.

Green fingered Millfield residents joined forces with the "Beecholme & Casimir Community Growing Project" on Sunday 20 Feb to transplant 2 fruit trees in North Millfield Park. Both groups were helped by the Tree Musketeers, volunteers who plant, protect and help preserve trees in Hackney to plant a semi-dwarf almond tree and a plum tree.

Hackney Homes disconnected 50 faulty gas cookers last year in a blitz to rid the borough's council housing of dangerous appliances.Latest statistics released by the London Fire Brigade show that the main cause of fire in the borough is by people leaving their cooking unattended. So "Stay gas safe" is the message being relayed to tenants and leaseholders from Hackney Homes.

Beecholme Estate in Hackney has been acknowledged by the national Clean Britain Awards with a five star rating. One of the only estates to get the highest rating from Clean Britain, the judges were impressed by the way in which residents have worked with Hackney Homes to create an estate with a well cared for and pleasing visual environment that both visitors and residents alike can feel at ease in. Winter warmer brightens up cold days
Elderly residents came out on a cold winter day to meet neighbours and find out how Hackney Homes can help them feel warmer and safer at home. Over 200 residents were treated to woolly hats and socks, they enjoyed meeting locals and exchanging conversation over hot soup and refreshments.

Hackney Homes stamps out Right to Buy Fraud
Hackney Homes recently stopped two people claiming Right to Buy for properties worth £350,000 after detecting fraud. The team use's a number of sophisticated anti-fraud procedures and found that the applications were sent in by people who were not entitled to them. In both instances, Hackney Homes recovered possession of the properties as the tenants were forced to hand back their keys or face further action being taken against them.

Hackney Homes has teamed up with Ofcom to successfully shut down illegal radio stations operating on estates in Hackney. Recently two people were charged further to a pirate radio station being identified and closed down on an estate and over 14 masts, transmitters and recording equipment have been removed this year.
